With more than thirty thousand cataract procedures performed; Vincenzo Maurino is one of the most if not the most experienced cataract surgeon at Moorfields Eye Hospital. We can use femtosecond laser to treat cataract and refractive lens exchange patients.
Femtosecond laser assisted cataract surgery offers a reproducible, non-invasive technique but has failed in large clinical comparative studies to show any benefit over phacoemulsification in cataract and RLE surgery. Therefore, at present despite 6 years of experience using the laser we have decided to use laser technology only in a few patients were there might be some benefits.
Ultimately, the most important factor in minimising complication and achieve best outcome is the surgeon experience!
